title: "Princess Cruises — The Alaska Specialists"
description: "Princess runs the deepest Alaska fleet of any cruise line and sells end-to-end cruisetour packages that extend the trip into the Alaska interior."
updated: "2026-10-21"
Princess Cruises is a premium-mainstream line whose brand identity is deeply tied to Alaska. The company runs its own lodges and motorcoach fleet in the Alaska interior and Yukon, which lets it sell true cruisetour packages — a 7-night cruise plus a 3-7 day land extension — as a single booking end-to-end.
What makes Princess different
The MedallionClass system is Princess's wearable guest token: it unlocks your cabin, lets you order food and drinks to anywhere on the ship, and functions as your ship ID without pulling a card out. On the newest ships (Enchanted Princess, Discovery Princess, Sun Princess) this is seamless.
The land-tour arm is unique. If you want to see Denali, Fairbanks, Mount McKinley Princess Wilderness Lodge, or extend an Alaska cruise with 3-5 days exploring the interior, Princess is the only mainstream line that handles the whole package end-to-end.
Who it suits
Great for: Alaska-focused travellers, multigenerational families, 50+ couples, anyone wanting a cruise-plus-land package without arranging two separate bookings.
Less great for: families with young kids (limited kids' programming compared to Royal or Disney), waterpark-seekers, party cruisers.
Fleet highlights
- Sun-class (Sun Princess, Star Princess) — 2024-2026 debuts, the brand's newest.
- Royal-class (Royal, Regal, Majestic, Sky, Enchanted, Discovery) — 2013-2022, the current mainstream fleet.
- Grand-class (Grand, Golden, Caribbean, Diamond, Sapphire) — 1998-2004, workhorses still earning great reviews.
Where it sails
Princess has global coverage but Alaska is the signature region. In peak summer the brand has 5-7 ships in Alaska simultaneously — more than any other line. Alongside Alaska, Princess runs Caribbean year-round, Europe May-October, Australia/New Zealand November-March, and world cruises January-April.
Cruisetour math
A paired 10-11 day Alaska cruisetour typically prices between CAD $3,500 and $7,500 per person twin-share, depending on cabin category and land-tour length. If you want to see Alaska's interior (Denali, Fairbanks) not just the Inside Passage, the cruisetour is essentially the only efficient way to do it.
When to book
Alaska cruisetours sell out early — many 2026 departures are already closed. Lock the land-tour dates first and build the cruise around them. Partner sale windows: late winter (February-March) and shoulder-season clearance (May-June).
