“Disney's original private island — the first in the industry to build a deepwater pier, pioneering the no-tender private day.”
Castaway Cay is quieter, smaller and more family-focused than its newer private-island competitors — by design. Disney kept 94% of the island undeveloped. The guest footprint spans a tram-connected strip from the pier to Castaway Family Beach and the kids' and tween clubs; the adults-only Serenity Bay sits at the island's eastern tip with its own tram stop and bar. Food is complimentary (burgers, hot dogs, salad bar, ice cream). Shore excursions are the paid extras — stingray encounters, bike rentals, parasailing, in-water bungalow rental. Characters make appearances throughout the day.
Disney's fare is 50-100% above comparable Royal Caribbean — but Castaway Cay is included (no upcharges for the main pool, main beach, water platform or dining). Serenity Bay's bar prices are reasonable (same as onboard). Line-ups for the free Flying Dutchman photo op and character meet-and-greets peak at 10am-12pm.
